Engagement rate shows how many of your followers actually interact with your content. A large audience that never reacts is worth less than a smaller one that does.
The formula is total interactions divided by number of posts, divided by followers, times 100. You can also measure against reach, which is fairer when a post is shown to only part of your audience.
Questions
What is a good engagement rate?
It varies by platform and account size. As a loose guide, under 1% is low, 1–3% is average, 3–6% is good and above 6% is excellent. Smaller accounts usually see higher rates.
Should I use followers or reach?
Followers makes accounts easy to compare. Reach shows how well a specific post performed with the people who saw it.
